Bob Bly doesn’t know what "BDE" is...
Let’s not tell him. But we do need to talk...
Oh dear.
Bob doesn’t know what BDE is.
And by “BDE” I mean…
Big…
Damn…
Email….
Energy.
Not whatever else you were just thinking about…
Let me back up.
Yesterday, I dropped a post on LinkedIn listing my different newsletters.
Each one has a vibe.
For Mondays, I wrote:
💌 Big Email Energy – the art of writing sexy email follow-ups that get more opens, clicks, replies & sales.
Enter stage right:
Bob Bly.
Legendary copywriter.
Literally wrote the book on copywriting.
Been in the game longer than most of us have been alive.
He commented:

Bless him.
But also... oh no. 😱
Bob thinks I’m doing weird stuff with my email list.
Like…
OnlyFans with merge tags?
(“Hey [FIRSTNAME], I put on something special for you… click to see the rest.”)
No, no, no.
That’s not what I meant.
But then it hit me:
If Bob didn’t know what I meant by a sexy email...
Most people probably don’t.
Which, frankly, feels like a crime.
Can you imagine living your whole life...
Without ever receiving a sexy email?
There’s no thrill or tension in your life…
No copy that makes you lean in and think:
“Damn… I need to read every word of this.”
So let’s fix that. Right now.
It’s time for you to discover…
What makes an email sexy?
First of all, it’s drippin wet with “marketing juice.”
It grips you from the subject line.
It builds intrigue without trying too hard.
It knows what’s on your mind…
And slips right into the conversation.
There’s rhythm, personality, energy, swagger...
And it leads you down a slippery slope of line after line...
Until your cursor is hovering over the CTA and you don’t even know how you got there.
It’s not loud or cheesy.
And it definitely doesn’t try to “trick” you into buying.
It’s just that good.
We write emails that feel like movie scenes.
You’ll catch a stolen glance across the inbox.
We get replies like:
“I’m addicted, I can’t wait to see what’s next.”
“Best subject line I’ve ever read, it convinced me to buy.”
“I’ve never read an email like this.”
“That was a DAMN GOOD email.”
That’s what I mean by sexy.
And that’s the energy I aim for inside of “Big Email Energy.”
