Caitlin Clark = Michael Jordan

By now you may be aware:

Caitlin Clark sells basketball tickets…

Better than men do.

Literally though…

The women’s Final Four tickets were 2-3x more than the price for the men’s tournament…

Ticket prices for the WNBA team, Indiana Fever have tripled

From $60 to $433…

And Clark hasn’t even been drafted by them yet.

But not that long ago… women’s bball was not so popular.

I wrote an email to my list in April 2022 about this.

Here is an excerpt:

“The WNBA is very young.

It's just barely 26 years old.

So of course it's going to
take time to pop off.

Meanwhile, there are hot
college teams like UConn
that do well at the ticket
office.

So it's not like people
don't like women's
basketball at all.

But that brings us to another point...

American culture has not yet
fully accepted and embraced
women's basketball.

This is a "belief" problem...

It can be solved with marketing.

There is this fundamental
belief that women's BB isn't
worth watching cause
they're not men.

It's not as good, it's boring.

The comparisons are silly
because each league is a
different league and a
different world.

It's not the NBA, duh.

It's like saying you won't
listen to Nicki Minaj cause
she's not Drake 😂

She's...

Nicki Minaj...

...

And people embrace
plenty of other female
athletes like soccer
and tennis stars...

Who would easily lose
to their male counterparts
and are thus also "inferior"

But keep in mind that women's
college teams and pro teams
often practice with DIII men's
basketball players...

And you have to be GOOD
to play DIII men's basketball.

So it's not like women
aren't actually good at
basketball...

It's just a collective American
narrative about relative
newcomers to a sport.

Even though women
have been playing it
since the 1800s right
after it was invented, lol.

Look, I think the WNBA's
woes can be solved with
media and marketing.

Not the cheesy feminist
"we got next" bullsh!t.

You gotta take all that
"political" stuff out..

And just show the STORIES..

Like how they did with
the Nascar drivers you
know?

That Netflix show really
blew up the sport and got
people interested.

You gotta show the
highlights of the players...

Because there are female stars
who draw big audiences even in
high school...

And tell me you wouldn't
like watching HS games with
a player like this.

(If you're a basketball fan that is..)

The truth is, not that many
people cared about the early
pre-NBA basketball leagues
for men either...

And before super teams
like the Lakers and Celtics...

And stars like MJ...

Blew up in the '80s...

The NBA just wasn't
that big of a deal.

So leagues can take a
long time to gain traction...

And it's often a huge star
like a MJ that blows it up.

I think the WNBA actually
does have a chance to go
mainstream in 10-20 years..

But they will have to do it
with media and marketing
and less politics.

After all, it's a hard sell to
watch a bunch of lesbians 😂

Kobe and his daughter
were ready to take on
that task...

One reason why their deaths
were so sad was because
they were going to push
women's basketball to the
spotlight...

I've seen plenty of NBA
players support the league...

But none come even
close to Kobe's level.

He was going to be involved.

It was gonna be beautiful.

But it's ok...

It's just a matter of time and economics.

Peace, love &
damn good emails 💌”

April 2024 comments:

Steph Curry picked up the torch from Kobe.

He’s been very vocal and active in helping women’s bball lately.
