Travis Kelce's Follow-Up Secrets

A couple important things…

Critical background info about Taylor Swift:

  1. Her fans trade “friendship bracelets” at her shows…

  2. Men don’t really pursue her and don’t like her fame…

  3. Her last boyfriend didn’t like being in the public eye…

Now I’m going to break down Travis Kelce’s “follow-ups” with Taylor Swift…

And how he entered her world with them…

A really important point here:

We’re usually so consumed with our own world…

And what we want…

That we completely forget to tap into our prospect’s world.

Taylor’s got stuff she likes and wants in a guy.

Stuff she’s never had before.

Like a guy who fully celebrates and supports her career…

A guy who’s comfortable with fame…

And comfortable with being in the spotlight…

Who also understands that Taylor may always be more “powerful” than him.

Well, if Travis didn’t understand that before…

Then he certainly knows now.

Just check out these headlines over the last few days:

  • New York Post: “Taylor Swift effect: Jets ticket sales soar as Travis Kelce visits MetLife Stadium”

  • Wall Street Journal: “Gannett Wants to 'Save Local Journalism.' It Thinks Taylor Swift and Beyoncé Can Help.”

  • USA Today: “Republicans should fear Taylor Swift. She could be all that matters”

  • Yahoo: “Gov. Gavin Newsom Says Taylor Swift’s Influence on 2024 Election Will Be ‘Profoundly Powerful’: She ‘Stands Tall and Unique’”

I’m dead on that last one 😂

It’s hard to relate with Taylor Swift…

So you may never see how hard her dating life might be…

But she typically goes for cocky musicians who don’t care too much about her…

Or her last boyfriend Joe, who was a shy indie actor that she had to pursue!

Her discography tells of all the insecurity and doubt she had during that relationship.

But Travis actually paid attention to what his “market”… Taylor… really wants.

-Validation of career… check (came to her show with a friendship bracelet)

-Able to handle fame… check (he’s already pretty famous)

-Comfortable in the public spotlight… check

(talked about her on his podcast, challenged her to see what would happen if she showed up at his game)

-Confidently and directly expresses interest… check

-Goofy and fun, which she desperately needs after Serious Joe.

Travis’ way of following up has been through his podcast…

Chatting about his failure to reach Taylor at her show.

Which was a genius move…

Because she’s used to guys who don’t directly show interest…

And aren’t very public about it either.

Poor chick’s had to make the moves her entire life…

But Travis continues to show he isn’t phased by the media…

And makes public declarations of his intentions.

It might sound silly, but there are important marketing lessons here.

  1. Get in your prospect’s world. It’s not going to be Taylor Swift’s world… but your prospects have their own version of friendship bracelets and comfort in the spotlight.

  2. One of my mentors says you can never go wrong talking about things in your prospect’s world… feel free to unpack your bags and stay there.

  3. Follow up, follow up, follow up. Keep trying.

  4. Fill in the gap between what they really want and what they’ve been getting. Don’t be Serious Joe.
